Dental Crowns - Same Day CEREC Crowns

Your teeth are strong, able to stand up to a lot of daily wear and tear. Even with proper care, including brushing, flossing, and regular dental cleanings and exams, they are not indestructible, and they can suffer damage. Damage can happen due to a variety of different causes. Some tooth damage not only affects the appearance of your smile, but compromises your oral health as well. At Macadam Dental, we can restore the appearance and health of damaged teeth with CEREC crowns.

What is a Crown?

A crown is a restoration that caps the entire visible surface of a damaged tooth. It is designed to strengthen a weak tooth, hold a damaged tooth together (preventing further damage), and protect a compromised tooth from bacterial invasion (which can then lead to an infection). Crowns can be made from a variety of different materials, including metal, porcelain fused to metal, composite resin, and ceramic. At Macadam Dental, our CEREC crowns are made from ceramic.

Traditional Crown Placement

Traditionally, crowns take two visits to complete. During your first visit, the tooth is prepared. A portion of the enamel is removed from the affected tooth, a process known as trimming. It is done under local anesthetic. Once the tooth has been prepared, an impression is then taken. The impression is sent off to a lab, where it can take up to two weeks (or more) for the crown to be created. While you wait, you are given a temporary crown, which helps to protect the affected tooth. When the crown is ready, a second visit is required to place it.

Same Day CEREC Crowns

At Macadam Dental, we offer CEREC crowns. With CEREC crowns, the need for a second visit, and a temporary crown, is completely eliminated. Instead, our in-office CEREC (Chairside Economic Restorations of Esthetic Ceramics) technology allows us to create a beautiful, natural looking crown while you wait.

CEREC crowns utilize CAD/CAM (computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing) technology. Instead of a traditional impression, which is taken with putty, this technology allows us to take a digital impression of your mouth. We can then use specialized software to design a custom-fit crown. The information is sent to the milling machine, where your crown is fabricated from a single piece of ceramic based on the specifications of your mouth. Once the crown is finished, we can set it in place, and you leave the office the same day with your damaged tooth beautifully restored.

Benefits of CEREC Crowns

CEREC crowns offer numerous benefits:
•  They help to strengthen weak teeth, prevent further damage (such as splitting or shattering), and protect them from infections.
•  Ceramic provides a beautiful, natural appearance, mimicking both the color of your natural enamel, as well as its light reflecting properties.
•  Ceramic is biocompatible, and will not irritate your gum tissue. It is also a great option for those who have allergies to metal.
•  CEREC crowns eliminate the need for a temporary crown, as well as a second visit. Instead, you receive your permanent crown that very same day. This saves you valuable time, and gets you back to your normal life that much quicker.

If your teeth have experienced damage, it is important to have them treated right away. CEREC crowns restore damaged teeth, protecting the health of your mouth and preventing further damage. Call Macadam Dental to learn more and schedule your appointment today.
The first step towards a beautiful, healthy smile is to schedule an appointment.
