Dental Cleanings and Exams
Having dental cleanings and exams twice a year is an important preventive step. Regular cleanings help us identify problems early—often when they are still small or hidden—saving you time, money, and the need for more extensive treatment later.
Dental cleanings are a key part of maintaining your oral health. During your appointment, we remove plaque, calculus (tartar), and surface stains that build up on your teeth and along your gum line. By keeping up with regular cleanings and exams, we can help prevent cavities, protect your periodontal health, and reduce the risk of gum disease.
Ultrasonic Scaler
The ultrasonic scaler is an essential tool our hygienists use to remove plaque and tartar. It works by using ultrasonic vibrations to break up and release calcified deposits from your teeth. These vibrations are extremely small and rapid, so most patients notice them only as a high-pitched sound. By effectively removing buildup, the ultrasonic scaler helps keep your teeth clean and reduces the risk of gingivitis.
Periodontal Scaling
At times, one of our dentists may recommend a more involved cleaning, known as periodontal scaling or “deep cleaning.” This procedure includes cleaning both the teeth and gums, then smoothing the tooth roots. By performing a deep cleaning, our hygienist can remove plaque—filled with bacteria—from deep pockets around the teeth.
To finish, your hygienist will brush, floss, and polish your teeth to remove surface stains. We may also recommend a fluoride treatment to help strengthen your enamel. You’ll leave the office with a brighter smile and a healthier mouth.
Intra-Oral Camera
The intraoral camera is a valuable educational tool we use to show you exactly what we see during your exam. This small camera captures live footage from inside your mouth, which we project onto a monitor so you can view it in real time. Seeing what’s happening can make a big difference in understanding your oral health.
With the intraoral camera, we can clearly show you issues such as:
- Broken fillings
- Chipped or cracked teeth
- Visible decay
- Bleeding around the gums
- Abscesses or cysts
Digital X-Rays
At Macadam Dental, we use advanced digital X-rays, which are a major improvement over the traditional film you may remember. Digital images can be viewed instantly on a large screen, allowing us to zoom in on areas of concern for a more detailed view. We can also quickly share images with specialists when needed for a second opinion.
Most importantly, our digital X-ray system is more sensitive than traditional film, reducing radiation exposure by up to 90%—while giving us clearer, faster results.
Dental Sealants
At Macadam Dental, we help protect your molar and premolar teeth from decay with dental sealants—one of the most proactive preventive treatments in dentistry.
Sealants are a thin plastic coating applied to the small grooves of your teeth in liquid form, then hardened with a special light to create a protective “shell.” The process is quick, completely painless, and adds an extra layer of defense against cavities.
